Collaborating to create the new currency for better cancer outcomes

A team of experienced life sciences research and investment executives from around the world are constructing a cancer research and collaboration impact investment fund, The Global Cancer Research & Commercialisation Fund (GCRCF).

The Fund has been designed to establish greater collaboration and open innovation between research institutes, philanthropic foundations and investors from all corners of the globe to harness investment capital to deliver superior financial returns and most importantly drive better outcomes for cancer patients.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reports that 8.2 million people die each year from cancer, an estimated 13% of all deaths worldwide. It is expected that there will be a 70% increase in new cases of cancer over the next two decades creating a huge public health issue, requiring significant attention.

For many decades now, the medical research and investment sectors have worked together in a fragmented manner to bring life saving solutions to the world. This has been somewhat inefficient and ineffective both in terms of patient outcome and investor return. The “tech-tonic” shift in medical research and standard of care brought about by new technological advances e.g. genomics, big data and immunotherapy are bringing an explosion of potential new avenues of research.

To confirm their assessment, the founding team is currently reaching out to industry experts, leading research institutes, foundations and investors. Following these discussions, and based on necessary regulatory compliance and approvals, they will announce details of the fund.
